Grand Terminal Opens at Grand Turk

"Unlike other port facilities, which are basically passenger processing centers, the new $40-million Grand Turk Cruise Center built by Carnival Corp. is a destination in itself. It has a swimming pool, changing rooms, lockers and showers, an 800-foot beach and cabanas as well as the usual complement of retail shops. It also is home to the Caribbean's largest Margaritaville, the chain of bar/restaurants owned by musician Jimmy Buffett."

Well my first reaction might be "better there than on Provo" not that it would even be possible here, but actually I think this is a good thing as it brings more attention the Turks and Caicos island but is not likely to lead to a flood of new tourists to Provo. The reason being that the people who travel on cruises and flood these terminals are different from the people who like to lie out on the beach all day on Grace Bay. Also, Carnival is helping the T&C government to build up Grand Turk and hopefully some of the funds from the terminal will be used to beautiful Provo, pave the roads, build a proper downtown, etc. Wishful thinking? Stay tuned....

The Grand Turk Cruise Center has its own website where you can view some of the excursions they have. Some of them sound pretty fun, i have to admit. Maybe if i'm tired of sunning, i'll take a boat ride over there and see what all the hubbub is about.
